Calling the Circle: A reading and conversation with four Northwest Philly Poets


Deidra Allan, former Poet Laureate of Montgomery County (2001), is a graduate of Vermont College. Her works have been published in American Poetry Review, Poetry Miscellany, Mad Poets Review, and Wind Magazine. She is a recipient of a 2001 Inspiration Grant from the Leeway Foundation and teaches poetry at the Cheltenham Adult Education Program.
 
Toni Brown’s poems and stories have been published in journals and anthologies including: Night Bites: Vampire Stories by Women; Night Shade: Gothic Tales by Women, Pillow Talk II, and most recently Fireweed, and the American Poetry Review. Toni is an Editor for the Painted Bride Quarterly Journal, Co-Editor of the Cave Canem V Anthology and recipient of a 2001 Leeway Foundation poetry grant.
 
Nzadi Keita's poems have recently appeared in Beyond the Frontier: African-American Poetry for the 21st Century, and Bum Rush the Page: A Def Poetry Jam. Keita, born in Germantown and raised in Mt. Airy, has taught poetry in elementary schools, prisons, and college classrooms. 
 
Janet Mason is the author of three chapbooks of poetry, two from Insight To Riot Press.  Her memoir is in the review process with The University of Wisconsin Press, and she is current working on a novel.  She has taught at Temple University, Stockton College, University of Pennsylvania, and has an upcoming class at the Mt. Airy Learning Tree.
